Machine learning is a catch-all name for a range of applied practical algorithms that can identify repeatable patterns and relationships in observed data. Importantly, it can do so without having to be told explicitly what kind of patterns and relationships to look for – the algorithms work that out for themselves.

Does this sound like science fiction? Well, it’s not – it’s here, it’s part of our daily lives and will become increasingly prevalent in the future. In this CPD-accredited article published by AdviserVoice, we discuss machine learning – what it is, its applications now and in the future. Importantly, we consider its application to investment.
